Sunday Morning - “Moments of Connection”
Good morning & I hope this finds you healthy and happy.
I was listening to a podcast and was pleasantly surprised, quite shocked and totally inspired. Intrigued? The gentlemen being interviewed, that affected me so very much, was Rainn Wilson who plays “Dwight” from the show The Office. Yes, it is true, which is part of the shock thing. But, way the inspirational part far out-weighed it. Rainn spoke about what people, as a society are chasing; is it happiness & if so, what is that? He said what he thought was moments of connection. He mentioned as an example when he played with his son; he is there, present, in the moment, completely focused on whatever is in that very moment for him and his son to enjoy, experience and share. Those are the moments when he said he felt the most connected. Then he said he just wanted as many of those moments as he could get. That to him, would be success or happiness.
Contentment, Santosha, Happiness, Peace, Joy, Love…
All, just words. What do they mean? Pick one. Pick any. It does not matter. What matters is, if you specifically define for yourself as Rainn had done for himself, what it is that truly brings you to that special place. Once there, call it what you want. But I like Rainn’s “Moments of being connected”, it hit home with me. I know exactly what he is speaking about. I love clarity and this for me increased mine. Last weekend was Labor Day weekend and my wife had some friends visit us and we took them to the Orange County Street Fair and truly enjoyed our time with friends and loved ones in our new neighborhood (which is where my wife grew up!) This past weekend I was working with the most Wonderful people (you know who you are!) and I felt like I did the past weekend; I focused on trying to truly be aware and appreciate the great moments I was having and kept what Rainn had said in the back of my mind… “Moments of connection.”
That was my focus, thus I was successful. Whatever we focus on we will be successful at. Make sure it is truly that which you choose to be. Then be that. Focus on it and embrace as it fills you and guides you along your path.
peace & God bless
